Use on relations

Currently they are no instances of this tag in the database on a relation which are not areas (multipolygons): https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/TDm - in fact, there are no relations with this tag yet. Looking more broadly, the related tag ele=* is usualy only used on areas, not on other types of relations. The exceptions found on overpass-turbo (https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/TDn) are generally mistakes: administrative boundaries with an elevation which actually belongs to the administrative center, protected_area boundaries which include a wide variety of elevations (most likely the elevation was listed in an external database for a central point or ranger station, and then this was erroneously applied to the whole area, hills and all). There are also some site relations, public transport stop areas: these consist of several objects which will each have a slightly different elevation, so it doesn't make sense to add the elevation tag to the relation, rather than to the individual objects. The only time it makes sense to define an elevation is on a point (where it can be precisely defined) or a small, level area such as a building or pedestrian plaza, which is clearly at one elevation for it's entirety. So why should this tag be suggested to use on relations which are not areas? --Jeisenbe (talk) 21:09, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Generally, how can relations be excluded from tagging them, if we cannot know what type of geometry they describe? I am in favor of removing the whole on nodes, ways, relation suitability icons from the wiki. FWIW, as this is not specific to this tag I am removing on relations, as it isn’t applied in a single instance so far—-Dieterdreist (talk) 21:30, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
