- I would make it subtags (properties), e.g. a tag for emitting music. You could “borrow” luminous=* from the advertising tags for light emitting fountains or lit=* for those that are lit. —Dieterdreist (talk) 23:47, 14 July 2018 (UTC)
Meaning of fountain=dry
I think it's not about being active or disused as wiki says. It's more like just another one term for splash_pad — https://www.google.ru/search?q=dry+fountain&newwindow=1&tbm=isch. At least, that section was added by me with this idea in mind.

Splash pad
It looks like fountain=splash_pad could be better served by playground=splash_pad. Thoughts? Midnightcomm (talk) 04:57, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- Some may believe playground=* must exist within a leisure=playground. Regardless of that, to me they can co-exist somehow. There doesn't exist an obvious tag for tagging individual fountain nozzles and parts either (cf Talk:Tag:amenity=fountain#Location_of_water_exit_points.3F). ---- Kovposch (talk) 05:08, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
Wikidata subject

Common specific types
I find the section “Common specific types” confusing for two reasons:
- The word “common” is characterized by such meanings as “occurring or appearing frequently”, “familiar” and “widespread, general”[1]. These all contradict the meaning of the word “specific”. This seems to be an important and problematic issue since it is stressed by the repeated request to “Please use this tag only for the exact type of [...] fountains and not for similar or different [...] fountains.”
- The position before the common generic types adds to that confusion, since the normal reader only sees those when they already read the previous section and formed their understanding of the topic accordingly.
Since I see no reason for the current situation I will correct these two problems. SebastianHelm (talk) 14:24, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
Unlisted types, some of which seem common
When editing a feature, OSM offers the following types in addition to the types covered in this article. Do we have anything to say about them?
- decorative – that seems like a very general term. I checked a number of decorative fountains in my vicinity, but none of them even uses the fountain tag.
- jet_water
- drinking_fountain (difference from fountain=drinking? This appears in the article, but the difference is not explained. If those are meant to be synonyms, which is preferred?)
- victoria_zdenac
- yes (I know this is a generic term. But what does it mean here: That the fountain has a type, as opposed to ...?)
- no (what on earth is a fountain that per definition has no type?)

Welling up in a pond
If the water shot up from the surface of the pond, I would call it a fountain.
If it just rose to the surface at a point, I would call it some kind of underground spring. Jidanni (talk) 14:35, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
