Nebo Loop Road Collapse (26640374725).jpg

Would it qualify as smoothness=impassable surface=asphalt?

This specific case likely would not be mappable in OSM as it was short term, but if it would stay not repaired I would use smoothness=impassable surface=asphalt highway=path for it. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 22:34, 17 January 2022 (UTC)

Example very_bad sett

Picture sett/very_bad is wrong. This image does not show a very bad road where you need a vehicle with high clearance ... --Langläufer (talk) 17:28, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Very bad sett.jpg
Let me tell you that the picture somehow looks better than the on-ground situation of where I took that picture. Maybe it is the perspective. But I agree, a picture of a even worse sett would be better. Maybe taken from a lower position, so that the unevenness is more striking (Do you have one? Sorry, I don't know any street in my area that I would classify as very_bad.
It's not the only one in that column that doesn't show any obstacle that would hit the bottom of a normal car (no high clearance). I've been looking for roads that show this, but by the time they get so bad that you need high clearance, there is usually so little pavement left that I wouldn't tag them as paved. I've started ona revision of the gallery (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Rhhsmits/SmoothnessGallery ) but I haven't had the time to complete it. There I moved the picture you mentioned to bad. Unfortunately it is used in StreetComplete to illustrate very_bad. --rhhs (talk) 07:15, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
I don't want to start the discussion(s) all over again, but the category “very_bad” does not require an “obstacle that would hit the bottom of a normal car”, nor does it require a vehicle with high clearance. One interpretation of "usability" is also that the usability of cars "below" high clearance is limited - for example, you have to significantly adapt your speed and driving line to the road conditions.
(So I can well imagine that the current picture could actually be very_bad, but it is not clear from the picture. However, I have never managed to take a more expressive picture of an exceptionally bad sett surface...) Supaplex030 (talk) 11:35, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
