The key waste=dog seems a useful addition, to be used with amenity=waste_basket for mapping bins that are exclusively for dog waste, as typically found in parks and alongside footpaths.

cigarette

The general approach elsewhere is to allow more than one value, for example: cigarette_waste=yes;general_waste=no;dog_excrement=dedicated. Brycenesbitt (talk) 15:56, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Needles/sharps?

There are some bins for safely disposing of hypodermic needles (usually attached to a syringe) often referred to generally has "sharps". Any ideas about how to tag these? It seems that waste=drugs might loosely apply, but might not completely fit (also, why isn't the tag waste=drug (singular form generally preferred?). --Dobratzp (talk) 18:04, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

These are definitely different from drug disposal containers: those take the actual drugs and won't accept needles, while these only take empty needles. For spelling:

 Sharps waste is more general than needles or syringes, so it's possible the database benefits from using more than one value here. I created waste=sharps to document the kind of container, but I'm not sure it's always right to use this instead of waste=syringes or similar.

waste=recycling

What are the opinions on waste=recycling/waste=trash;recycling?

In the UK it's not uncommon for there to be dual purpose bins, one side for recycling, the other for general waste. Having 2 POIs for 1 bin seems wrong, this would solve that. The 2 values above have a combined usage of 1,322. --CjMalone (talk) 09:00, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
