Discuss London Hack weekend early 2011 here:

Theme / project hacking

I won't be able to attend my self, as I am no longer in London, but I thought I'd mention something I thought did / didn't work the last times: I would suggest that the hack weekend has a theme / project on which people try and jointly work, rather than everyone do their own thing. For example, I thought the hackweekend on i18n was particularly successful with everyone working towards the one goal together including people distributed across irc and even newly learning how to work with the rails_port. The hackweekend on API 0.6 was probably similar? In contrast, the last two I thought were a little more disjoint and felt less effective. --Amm 18:37, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

It's a good point. Personally I didn't get involved in the themed hacking previously, but i18n in particular seemed to work well. Something which gets everyone involved, and gives a collective achievement to shout about afterwards. hmmm
Shame you wont make it. In fact, it's a shame you're not in London anymore. Where'd you go??

Added a section for ideas there (spurred by toilet discussions) -- Harry Wood 13:52, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Some ideas for possible themes: "Internationalising Potlatch 2", "Integrating OpenStreetBugs and or other Q/A tools into osm.org", "make openstreetmap data more accessible such that not only resourceful companies who are able to download and process 10Gb of compressed data can use OpenStreetMap directly. I.e. improve and create tools to make it easy(er) to create various regional or thematic extracts. Offer planet files / extracts in .osm.pbf in addition to the standard xml file"

Would be interested in going (I could have demonstrated my GUI front end to warp-gbos), but it clashes with the SABRE AGM which has to take priority for me :-( --Ritchie333 12:22, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
