"There is a Language-Rule that if a place/streetname ends on -er it will be writen seperatly, so "Berliner Straße" is correct, but "Berlinerstraße" is not. It would be great if for the name finder "Berliner Str." equals "Berlinerstr." and "Berliner Straße". "

As far as I've learned in school (read: I'm not sure, this is very long ago), that's wrong. The difference is not based on the "-er"-ending, but on "Berlin" being a place. If the road would be named for Mr. Berliner, it would be Berlinerstraße.

That is true: if "Berliner" is a person's name then the street would indeed havve to be "Berlinerstraße" (arnepe, from Berlin)

Implemented?

Is the abbreviations feature implemented? Most of the abbreviations listed in this page are marked as not implemented.

If yes, how often is it updated? By who?

AFAIK Nominatim is not using this data, but it possible that 5.0 will use it ( https://github.com/osm-search/Nominatim/issues/1896 ). Though it is useful for anyone doing anything with abbreviations, for example I used Polish section Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:03, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Cleanup Request

Seems like Nominatim isn't been updated for a long time. I think this page should have general instructions on how updating the code to handle country-specific names. vgeorge 29 july 2011

AFAIK Nominatim is not capable of using such data and probably never used it - see https://github.com/osm-search/Nominatim/issues/1896 (in 2020 it is just one of possible plans for 5.0) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:59, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Streets in Colombia

In the Spanish part, it says:

These abbreviations about road types are the official classification according to the National Statistical Institute (INE) of Spain. We have added some other commonly used in Spanish compiled by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE).

However, in Colombia the streets tries to follow the pattern of a grid, with each line called in a similar way. Calles from east to west, Carreras from north to south, and Diagonal and Transversal. These name, and other ones are not part of the INE o RAE, because that applies in Spanish.

Then, how can I add the names of these types of streets in Colombia? Should I mix them (Spanish streets and Colombian streets)? or a different table in this wiki?

All Canadian street classifiers are included - are they needed?

The section for Canada has some entries for names that are not abbreviated in the table (e.g. Byway, Campus, Cercle, Gate, rue, Way). However, this page is supposed to be "a list of abbreviations recognised by the Name Finder and Nominatim" Does anyone still find these useful as a list of possible Canadian street classifiers? Ones that are not abbreviations should be removed, as this is list of abbreviations. BTW, I removed "recognised by the Name Finder and Nominatim" as first tool is dead, and second only considers supporting this data (@Jarek Piórkowski:) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:01, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
