Target areas to map
In the Armchair mapping#Guidelines for event organisers I've put a section saying "Organisers should think carefully about target regions for armchair mapping", and talking about tools which can help make this explicit. Is this happening at all? I was expecting to see more details published here, or perhaps in relation to specific local events, stating which areas are going to be targeted.
On the 'join' page originally it said something about "don't go mapping far far away". I removed that. I think you can be more relaxed about that actually, in fact the armchair mapping activities may work better with a focus on developing world (contribute to HOT mapping tasks!) ...or things like TIGER fixup (even if you're not in the U.S.) Picking tasks like this... it doesn't negate the need for caution, and following all the other guidelines, but it might be less likely to cause aggro with local mappers than mapping semi-local rural areas in Germany for example.
But if you mapping rural areas in Germany... which areas? Has this been thought about properly?

- Hi Harry, my intention for the statement above was that mappers mostly know the 'wrong friends' in image analyses in their count(r)y. For example here in MV there are quiet often ditchs that can be misinterpretated as trails.
Personaly we coordinate the party on the local mailinglist for the state, as it's a topic specific for that local party. But good point, will post that question on twitter/facebook, might a good point to get some feedback/interaction by the community. As I understood the local threads most are planning to start in the surroundings of the city where the party is --!i!

- No reason to feel sad Jakubt :) To be hornest, I don't know. In summer would be cool to start a real global mapping party, but this might bring every kind of resources (orga, server, money, ...) to it's limits :/ I started NOTLM as a I thought that this kind of action should be tested in a OSM context, but such action can be started by simply everybody. But be warned, the organisations takes a lot of time ;) --!i! 18:28, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
