We are not allowed to copy this document from Wikipedia here because Wikipedia is released under the GFDL while the OSM wiki is released under CC-BY-SA . FredB 17:15, 6 Jul 2006 (UTC)
- wonderfull, what does the GFDL say about derived work? Erik Johansson 22:00, 6 Jul 2006 (UTC)
- The GFDL autorizes derived works if they are relesased under the GFDL. FredB 22:05, 6 Jul 2006 (UTC)
- Oh well, bye to the text then. We needed a proper one anyway. GNU licenced stuff has to stay GNU usually Bruce89 23:27, 6 Jul 2006 (UTC)
- Or we can just publish this under GFDL. This an almost perfect match, it's the same kind of project. Erik Johansson 06:21, 7 Jul 2006 (UTC)
- The licences are not compatible. We could stick a smallprint note perhaps at the top of this page, saying While the rest of this wiki is released under a CC-BY-SA licence, this page is released under GFDL since it is a derivative work of the wikipedia 'Privacy Policy' page. Thanks to all the orginal authors of of the wikipedia article (you are hereby attributed). OSM people adapting/contributing to this should be willing to release those contributions under GFDL (not CC-BY-SA). ...technically we would also have to ensure that all the contributors who have modified this page so far, are happy with the licence change. GAH! Licences are a pain.
- Incidentally Help:Wiki-Editing page has the same problem.
- This is no longer true, since this page only contains some links (as of 2010/12/01). Adding newer contents will be done from scratch.
- I think wikipedia was created under GFDL, before CC was invented. CC has better legal wording (or superior in some way I dont fully understand), but there's no way wikipedia can 'upgrade' their license. They are stuck with the old GFDL. -- Harry Wood 10:29, 27 Jul 2006 (BST)

I've re-written the Summary section from scratch, whilst trying not to change the meaning. Presumably if we do the same with each section, we can keep the CC-BY-SA? Avantman42 12:08, 27 Jul 2006 (BST)
Removal of user accounts
This text needs to be revised, but I wasn't sure how to revise it.
"depending on the policies of your local wiki" <- what does this mean? Is it simply a remnant of the Wikipedia license?
"Whether specific user information is deleted is dependant on the deletion policies of the project that contains the information." <- Surely it depends on OpenStreetMap's policies? Again, is this a remnant of the Wikipedia license? Avantman42 07:37, 27 Jul 2006 (BST)
