Alternative approach

Why not just use sells=* for goods which not implied by shop=* tag, e.g shop=tea & sells=coffee? Something B (talk) 10:49, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

Using ways and nodes instead?

The bakery has different opening hours
shop=butcher or shop=bakery
shop:bakery=yes
shop:butcher=yes
opening_hours=Mo-Fr 08:00-12:00,13:00-18:00; Sa 08:00-13:00
shop:bakery:opening_hours=Mo-Fr 07:00-12:00,13:00-19:00; Sa 07:00-13:00; Su 07:00-10:00

Why not map the building and then add two separate nodes for shop=butcher and shop=bakery with there corresponding opening_hours=*?--Ypid (talk) 14:57, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

• That would be a good thing to do if you had 2 separate shops: a bakery and a butcher. If it's the same shop being bakery and butcher then you would be violating one of the basic principles of OSM: "one feature, one OSM element". You'd also be a) mapping a lot of redundant information (probably contact information, opening hours, address), and b) make it hard/impossible for the software to distinguish between 2 separate shops and 2 different features of the same shop. --Nadjita (talk) 16:50, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
