Proposal talk:Fire station Additional
Fire station activity
Currently, fire_station:activity=* is proposed to describe what sounds like a given fire station hierarchy level. We should use simpler fire_station=* for that, without activity suffix. Fanfouer (talk) 23:36, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- If the fire_station:activity=* suffix isn't appropriate or unclear, it can be replaced. I am not in favour of fire_station=* it alone, because it would be equivalent to fire_station:type=* and the problem wouldn't be solved. Gendy54 (talk) 11:22, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
Fire station type
How do you feel about refactoring fire_station:type=*, to remove this :type suffix?
As I understand current usage, there is no concensus on sense of this type and it could lead to confusion. Some refers to hierarchy, others to funding and area of action, others to fire fighter contract status (volunteering, professional...). It requires several keys to define each of these props in every country, a given key shouldn't change its definition depending on the country it covers.
I know it's a longer and harder work, this could be really useful. Let me know Fanfouer (talk) 23:36, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- To propose tags with suffixes covering the main differences between fire stations: hierarchy, action area, team status,... and discourage the use of fire_station:type=* which is unclear.
I can see what you're trying to do, but not sure of the best approach? Here, our main urban Fire Service is operated, & funded, by the State Govt, & consists only of paid staff, mainly full-time. They also administer the strictly volunteer Rural Fire Service, which operates in rural areas, receives some Govt funding, but also relies heavily on their own fundraising & donations from the public. Airport & Military Fire Services are their own organisations, as well as private fire services owned, funded & operated by major companies such as mines etc. Rather than operator:type, it could possibly be covered by administration=*?
I've been trying to think about it, but nothing really comes to mind to sum up how any particular fire station operates, sorry.--Fizzie41 (talk) 04:31, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
