Isn't Highway=residential indicating that it's a living street? For me there is highway=unclassified the value for other small streets that are in non living areas. Of course you are right, that especially for developping countries, there would be a need for living_street=yes because living areas will be reached by pathes and tracks and no roads. The question is however, wheter we should tag the streets, or use something like landuse=residential!--Extremecarver 11:25, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- You misunderstood the purpose of a living street, but the name may be confusing since AFAIK it doesn't have an English name, and it's therefore constructed. And the concept doesn't exist in many countries either. A living street is not just a plain residential road, but it's a highway (not necessarily residential) with special traffic rules. See highway=living_street for some examples in different countries. So not all residential roads are living streets. And likewise (that's why this proposal is here) not all living streets are residential. --Eimai 13:12, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
- O.k. I got it. Living Street seems to be a bad translation from German to me. I am pretty certain in England 90% of people would think of residential area when hearing living street. Nevertheless living_area is still missing from OSM tagging schemes. highway=residential simply doesn't cut it in slums. --Extremecarver 00:44, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I support this map feature, looks good and needed, especially in developing countries. --Kslotte 17:34, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
