Lots of 'unwayed segments' in this area
This area is very heavily sketched out in unwayed segments already, which is good. Phase one mapping is quite complete, although it might be sketched over dodgy GPS tracks rather than accurate aerial imagery. There was a lot of nonesense unwayed segments around the Algate area in the past. I shall have a good look over that at some point before the event, using YWMS plugin (which I haven't got round to trying yet) I'll make sure the unwayed segments are properly aligned with the street layout for the whole area (2 or 3 hour job I'd say)
Now for the real surveying work ("phase two") we can just print that out, and work from the sketches. For the cake diagram, someone should experiment with Osmarender settings, and try plotting a map which shows unwayed segments in fat glowing yellow (bit like lint errors on Maplint). We might find that gives a better at-a-glance feel for where the phase two mapping hasn't happened yet.
Certainly there's no point working with Mapnik renderings for our print-outs / cake diagrams in this area, since Mapnik doesn't show the unwayed segments (big blank areas, where we have sketched the street layouts).

- As it turned out, there was a lot more work to do on phase one mapping in the areas (the two different areas) The areas which I thought were complete, were very old segments which were hopelessly inaccurate (They didn't reflect the road layout visible in the aerial imagery, very well at all. Maybe they were sketched over old ecourier data or something).
- But anyway I've done it! The area is "phase one" complete. Several sessions, totalling more like 5 or 6 hours of work drawing in unwayed segments using YWMS. It's quite fun and addictive once you get going.
- Now... Will people use this road layout, and print it out before going surveying? I hope so. -- Harry Wood 17:32, 21 August 2007 (BST)
For those who've not used it yet, Potlatch now has a single-step operation for converting unwayed segments into ways: just move the pointer to a node where some unwayed segments meet (i.e. the vertex of the line), then press 'U'. Hope this helps. :) --Richard 11:33, 24 August 2007 (BST)
- I'll have to give that a try now.
- One of the main attractions of using unwayed segments, was the faint grey lines rendered on the osmarender layer, but it looks like they've gone away with new version of osmarender :-(
- ...so might as well go ahead and make them untagged ways hey? Then they will be editable in Potlatch.
- An untagged way doesn't show up either though does it? (in osmarender/Mapnik) So for the purposes of printouts and cake diagrams, all my 'sketched' roads aren't going to appear unless we make a special osmarender configuration, or print the JOSM display.

- Oh or you can still see them as fat orange bits on the maplint view of the area. Not as elegant, or printable, as the old faint grey lines though. ...and I notice they didn't make it into the cake recipe :-( -- Harry Wood 23:57, 3 September 2007 (BST)
Organisational detail questions
Will we be in the Pembury Tavern on Saturday night? I guess the "recap" is happening at Transport2000 offices, so we'd be going to a restuarant then pub around that area?
On the Sunday meeting for coffee at 10, is that at the Pembury Arms? What time does it open? ...or a coffee place nearby in Hackney?
Details details.... I need to reflect the details on the upcoming.org events too

- The landlord has kindly agreed to open the Pembury early on the Sunday. Morwen 11:09, 24 August 2007 (BST)
Completion. Incomplete patch by Columbia Road
Could do a before and after screenshot now, but I notice there's a patch north of Columbia Road which is probably missing a few streets. That's quite close to the Transport2000 offices too (sorry... the campaign for better transport offices)
I can get to that at some point because it's quite pleaseant to go to Columbia Road market on a Sunday morning. ...but not sure how soon that will happen.
