Name or Ref ?

On Airports it is recommended to use ref=* with aeroway=taxiway, that however does not get rendered. The airports that I've seen actually use the name=* which is rendered. So what is the proper way of doing this?

  • Use both tags?
  • Recommend a change in rendering to ref=*?
  • Use name=* and change the recommendation??

It appears to get renderd for me? Martin Renvoize 21:29, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

This page suggests ref=*, that should be your primary reference. If you don't see ref=* in your favourite renderer, ask recommend a change. name=* would be used where it's name is different from it's designator (e.g. "A" is also called Foobar), but I've never seen that in real life. --Tinshack 11:51, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

taxiway vs taxilane

There is no tag for taxilane yet: "Taxilane: The portion of the aircraft parking area used for access between taxiways and aircraft parking positions (FAA)." The difference seems to be quite important for airports as I encounter.

See Proposed features/taxilane. There is a proposal to include this feature in OSM. I would recommend that discussion and ideas be included there. --Fairchildbrad (talk) 19:16, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

should not be used on areas?
