Inadequate tagging and things to think about for improvement
I'll put this on my list of things to think about when it comes to tagging related tasks, and hopefully one day there will be enough discussion to come up with a consistent tagging scheme.
- The type of operation: peeling, crushing, or grinding (at least in East Asia, these are clearly different operations of a different nature, and can make the difference between rice or mochi or noodles). Additionally, there may be work that involves crushing with liquid to make a dough.
- Scale: Some work is done in one shop, depending on the machine, while others are large and specialized. You can distinguish between 'craft=*' and 'industrial=*', where 'craft' is a place that has such machines (but also offers other tasks or services, set as a subtag), and 'industrial' is a large facility that specializes in such tasks (tag the site or building).
- Type of grain: in East, Southeast Asia, or other places where rice is used to make rice, a lot of the work is done on rice, but it can be done on almost any grain (just tagging it "rice" will limit its use).
I think the best alternative, assuming you create new tags or reorganize existing ones, is to divide them into "grain processing equipment" and "grain processing facilities", and then tag the type of work or grain under those. For example, "grain processing equipment" would be a subtag to tag the existence of the craft (example: craft=grain_processing), and "grain processing facilities" would be the nature of the property itself (industrial=grain_processing). It would also be nice to be able to tag the type of grain being worked with, either in addition to that tag or as a subtag. --깨몽/dreamy (talk) 03:45, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
