Distinction from clinic/hospital

According to https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=DE:Key:healthcare#Werte_des_Schl.C3.BCssels this is used to describe medical centers. These are places where multiple medical facilities are concentrated at one place. This accumulation may be ruled by planning and building laws or by the landlord of the building, but all facilities are independent from each other.

This does indeed differ from healthcare=hospital or healthcare=clinic, which tend to be one facility wich may have multiple departments or complementarys, but have one superior management structure.

This differentiation should be discussed, clarified, and then added to the english wiki pages. As stated above, I see a necessity for this tag besides besides healthcare=clinic and healthcare=hospital, as it describes a different thing. --Bstein (talk) 19:42, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

While that is a nice suggestion, it does not match how this tag is currently used. In practice, most uses in the database are in India, for health facilities called a "centre". In other countries a "medical center" or "health centre" is either a clinic or a hospital. For example, my hospital was officially "Memorial Medical Center" in Long Beach, CA, and it had several "Surgical centers" around it, which were a clinic for a multi-surgeon practice, or sometimes a building which contained many individual doctor's offices. Generally most features with healthcare=centre could be instead tagged as amenity=hospital, amenity=clinic or even amenity=doctors, and sometimes it is just the name of a building=* which contains many amenity=doctors / several amenity=clinic features but is not actually a health facility itself. (Similarly, the Empire State Building is not an office=*, it is a building=* with many separate office=* features inside). --Jeisenbe (talk) 02:13, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Usage in France

In our country, we have a lot of "Maisons de santé". A small place (usually a "house") that group health professionnal (doctors, nurses, psychologist, physiotherapist…)

@Pyrog: in France would a "Maisons de santé" be several different doctor's offices in one small building, with different phone numbers, receptions, email, etc? Or would they share the same receptions and administrative staff? --Jeisenbe (talk) 06:04, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Rewrite as disambiguation section

Cementing the comparison with healthcare=yes does not bring us forward, in particular not in the description template which is supposed to be concise. We have the page text for the details.

The tag is used 46k times, it is the 5th-frequent value for the healthcare-key with 11% usage. healthcare=yes is on place 8 with 8.5k usage.

Undoubtedly both 'yes' and 'centre' are unspecific and the situation should be improved. At least, 'centre' describes a physical healthcare facility, while 'yes' only indicates a relation to healthcare. The tagging list disscussion "Deprecate healthcare=centre" ended after my proposal to write a disambiguation section, so I'm trying this now. --Polarbear w (talk) 20:09, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

@Mateusz_Konieczny - no the rewritten text does not state the tag is deprecated, it recommends to either find a more specific tag or specify it further by subtagging.
