Talk:Tag:highway=elevator
The wiki page states that inclined elevators can be mapped as an open way tagged with highway=elevator. However this doesn't seem to be recognized by the default editor, it's not displayed on the map and not recognized by osmand. maxweight?
You suggest using maxweight=* for maximum weight of an elevator, but the same tag is used also for highways for a different purpose. The article maxweight=* doesn't mention anything about elevators and there are many road signs. Should we use the same tag for two things? I think it would be better to have a different tag. maro21 20:20, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Micro mapping
A mapper near me has added the outer skin of an elevator as a building with entry/exit doors and levels. I think that would be implied by the highway=elevator. See https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/1029310750 Warin61 (talk) 11:00, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Poor (incomplete) definition
There is hardly anything in the definition that would allow to distinguish edge cases, e.g. is a cab/cabin required? Can this tag be used for very small freight elevators (e.g. from the kitchen to a restaurant) where no people can fit into it and how would these be distinguished? What about inclined elevators? highway=elevator with bicycle: Is the legal permission or physical transportability meant?
Under the section "Tags to use in combination" the key `bicycle` is listed with the values yes / no. How exactly is this tag meant in the context of highway=elevator? Under `bicycle` the legal permission of this means of transport is defined.
Is this combination meant to describe the legal permission of transportation in an elevator? If so, in how many elevators is the carriage of bicycles specifically permitted or prohibited by signage?
Or is this to express the physical transportability of bicycles? If yes, is bicycle=yes/no the right tag to express this, since according to wiki bicycle is always used to represent the legal situation?
