Baumschulen/Tree nursery
What's about "Baumschulen?" Your picture looks like a today common high specialized industrial production of plants within a glass house. A tree nursey often looks similar to a orchard (but it isn't). --Taunide 13:10, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
- I'm unsure if I got the content of the article correctly: It is used for what is called "Baumschule" in German - the outside area, where trees and similar plants are grown, no flowers, no shops, etc. In this case, the image does not fit well - I'd suggest something like http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tree_Nursery_in_Wales.jpg ... (For this reason, I did not use the image in the German version). Miloscia (talk) 07:04, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
I miss any specific tagging to discriminate tree nurseries from other plant nurseries. Use of species & genus tags will very rarely be appropriate for any kind of nursery as they usually will need to grow a wide range of different species for both commercial reasons and for plant health. Christmas tree plantations
Is this really a common way of mapping christmas tree plantations? My understanding of the meaning of the term "plant nursery" is that usually these plants are grown for transplanting, while living, to another location. Here in Oregon, one of the leading producers of Christmas trees, this tag has not been used for these facilities.
Also, this text was just added: "It is recommended that the plant=trees tag be used only on orchards or plant nurseries with trees that carry fruit." Why would this be the case? --Jeisenbe (talk) 14:36, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Jeisenbe. Good to discuss this. I added that change to clarify the tagging for Chistmas tree farms because it could be easily interpreted that they are 'orchards.' My understanding of that tag is from the OSM wiki page that says, "This key trees=* is used as refinement for fruit trees". Basically, I found it difficult to find the page on tagging christmas trees so I was trying to improve navigability between wiki pages. -Osmedit 11 Dec 2020
Why the limitation of "for sale"?
Some plant nurseries grow plants for use by the organisation - not 'for sale'. The proposal had no such limitation. Warin61 (talk) 07:03, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
- Changed, no matter the proposal it is landuse=plant_nursery - not landuse=plant_nursery_growing_plants_for_sale Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 14:36, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
