What about private ones?
How one should map private fire pits - for customers of specific event venue etc.

- 8% of these features already have an access=* tag according to taginfo (https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/?key=leisure&value=firepit#combinations). There are 216 with access=customers already (https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/XYT) though access=private (https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/XYU) and access=yes (https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/XYV) are more common. --Jeisenbe (talk) 19:13, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
Different types of firepits?
For leisure=firepit there are at least two substantially different types of firepits and to make clear what kind of POI it is, maybe we should use subtags (vtkamm 16:10, 29 May 2023 (UTC)):
- firepit=campfire - small firepits for preparing food or warming up at camp and other leisure sites that are managed by users themselves (typically available year-around)
- firepit=bonfire - dedicated sites for big bonfires, that are usually managed by separate persons and used during festivities and big events (typically lit during the annual events at the same site)
As of 2023/05 (https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/tags/leisure%3Dfirepit#combinations) does not list that type of distinction. The tradition of bonfires is very widespread (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonfire) and these are often tourism attractions where specific navigation help would be useful.
Outdoor fireplaces
Imagine your wall fireplace in your home. Now imagine the house disappeared, leaving just the fireplace, with oh, only a foot of chimney. No, it is not necessarily part of a picnic site. How to tag? Jidanni (talk) 07:32, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
