Historic versus Historical

You should change "Mostly historic or obsolete features," to "Mostly historical or obsolete features," "Historical" essentially means "old things, mainly of interest only to historians" whilst "historic" means "notable" or "of interest to the general public."

historic=* should not be used as a synonym for "old," "disused," or "obsolete."

Also, since the proposal introduces man_made=threshing_floor there is no need to retain historic=threshing_floor. If a threshing floor is of historic interest (say because a duel between two famous personages was fought there) then add historic=yes. --Brian de Ford (talk) 00:56, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your input. I changed "historic" with "historical" in the description. I thought about and was inclined to use historic=yes but ended using historic=threshing_floor because it is documented and used a lot... --AntMadeira (talk) 01:50, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

I suspect that almost all of the historic=threshing_floor exist because people misinterpreted "historic" to mean "old" or "disused" and that they didn't think of using something like man_made=threshing_floor. I suspect that only a very small number of them are actually of historic interest in that there is something noteworthy about those particular threshing floors. Truly historic threshing floors probably exist in such low numbers that man_made=threshing_floor + historic=yes is a better way of tagging such things going forward. --Brian de Ford (talk) 11:53, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
I don't oppose this. If no one has an argument against it, I'll change it in the wiki. --AntMadeira (talk) 16:20, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Heritage

If the threshing floor is under the protection of a recognized heritage organization then it is appropriate to add heritage=*, heritage:operator=* and ref:operator=* tags. Depending upon the heritage organization, other heritage-related tags may be used. --Brian de Ford (talk) 01:01, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

Tourism

You suggest historic=yes would be appropriate for a threshing floor preserved as an open-air museum. I think tourism=museum would be more appropriate if it is actually operated as a museum (albeit with a single exhibit); use tourism=attraction if it's merely an attraction. --Brian de Ford (talk) 16:57, 15 November 2020 (UTC)

There are no museums comprised only with a threshing floor. The ones I know are ethnographic museums, where a threshing floor may be present. So, I don't think it's necessary to mention tourism=museum. I can refine the definition in the historic=yes part, emphasizing that to be historic, it has to be historically relevant, as in History books. Not being an English speaking native, I would appreciate you could edit the English text accordingly. --AntMadeira (talk) 20:02, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
The text "Mostly historical or obsolete features, they're still used in many countries for their original purpose or repurposed for other activities like festivals, family events, other agricultural activities or even open air museums." implies, to me, that there may be museums consisting of just a threshing floor. It seemed a bit strange to me, but I know a telephone booth that has been turned into a museum, so not impossible.
Your English looks fine. --Brian de Ford (talk) 20:47, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
Haha, nice example, but that was not my intention. I'll try to rephrase that part to "... or even included in open air museums." --AntMadeira (talk) 21:34, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
