Relation tags

length or distance

What's better? length or distance? --t-i 23:15, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

Discussion:

I'd prefer distance. It's more common for route relations (see osmdoc [1] vs. [2]). It's already used for Relation:route, too. --Werner2101 07:12, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
Convinced. I changed it. --t-i 11:32, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Members and Roles

On the main page there's no definition for the roles and members. The following table can be used for further discussions.

Object type Role Description
way None/forward/backward any kind of ways along the fitness trail route.
Can be tagged with forward/backward to indicate the direction of the route (respective to the direction of the tagged way)
node area station exercise stations
node start, stop markings for the start and endpoint of the fitness trail

Role for the exercise stations

Different possibilities are:

  • simple role name station
  • role with number e.g. stop_*, station_*

Discussion:

  • I think the number should not be part of the role. It should be added as ref= tag to the station. I'm prefering the role station, because stop can also be a role for the endpoint of the route relation. --Werner2101 07:12, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

How should it be tagged, if the start-node is also the end-node of the trail. how do i handle ways in the relation that are used more then once (in both directions)? --Flaimo 23:30, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Either add the node twice with each role ore use the role start_stop. I've now added a member table to the wiki page. --Werner2101 19:51, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
I really don't think "stop" is a good role name for the end or goal of a route. Isn't "stop" used in public transport routes for bus stops etc.? Stop thus sounds more equivalent of what is here called "station". We've discussed this somewhat for hiking routes on github. Please try to use a scheme that can be common for all excercise routes if at all possible. It looks to me like "end" is the best candidate, "goal" could be used for the "goal" on a roundtrip, and would typically be a peak or viewpoint for hikers.
Sorry, too late. All fitness trails are using the role stop, and we don't talk about bus routes here. --Werner2101 (talk) 18:07, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Why would it be too late? It's a mistake made in December last year, and it has been made without going through an RFC, as far as I can see. On a 140 relations that is not a very hard thing to fix is it? --Guttorm Flatabø (talk) 20:31, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Ok. If you're the volunteer to change all relations. I'm not fundamentally against it. --Werner2101 (talk) 18:45, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
In my opinion, goals, stops and waypoints are similar while there is only one end. In the case of fitness trails, you stop walking/running for doing some exercise then you run again until the ... end. --Cordialement, gerdami 22:36, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
In addition, suggesting to add two point on the exact same location (for start and stop) is not good advice. Overlapping objects complicate mapping a great deal. --Guttorm Flatabø (talk) 10:02, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
No that's not the suggestion. Add one node twice to the relation. It's only one node. --Werner2101 (talk) 18:07, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Ok, I understand now, but why have two ways of doing it, when one is enough? --Guttorm Flatabø (talk) 20:31, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Member tagging

tagging the exercises

Key Value Discussion
leisure fitness_station
sport exercise a sport tag (might also be an leisure tag)
name a name a name for the exercise station. e.g. jumping, sit-up, ...
description * (optional) longer description for the exercise
ref * (optional) a ref number of the exercise station

possible tags for sport:

  • sport=exercise
  • sport=gymnastics
  • sport=...

--t-i 23:15, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

I think there's currently no sport tag that fits for fitness trail exercises. I think we should create a new tag. I think good tags are sport=exercise or sport=fitness_trail_station. --Werner2101 07:57, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
On the sport=*-page it says, that sport should never be used without a physical key like leisure or amenity, so probabebly something like leisure=exercise_post would be needed. I'll take it to the international tagging-mailinglist to see if any native can come up with some good idea. --t-i 14:06, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
I have made photos of all the exercise stations and related sign pots of a near by fittness trail. Perhaps we could build a table, where each kind of exercise is listed and how to tag them.

Different kinds of fitness trails

fit-o-meter

These fitness trails are very common in Belgium and you find them in most parks and some woods (they're called "fit-o-meter"). But I've seen special ones in some places, like a 50+ fit-o-meter (for elder people only). So how would one tag variations like this? --Eimai 10:40, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Is it forbidden for youngers to run there? ;) You could use an additional fitness_trail:type=50+ if you want to differntiate. Can you think of other types? I think here in Switzerland the differentiation is made by different exercises on the same post (e.g. 20cm, 35cm and 50cm high blocks to step up). --t-i 11:45, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Running trails

Also, I think running routes shouldn't be on this page. It's something completely different and deserves its own tagging. --Eimai 10:40, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

That line is just to make clear, what a fitness_trail is not. Somewhen, I will set up a distinctive page about route=running.. --t-i 11:47, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Something similar, yet different.

Outdoor fitness.jpg

If you look at the photo above, you see that it's not a conventional fitness route, but a bunch of conventional fitness stuff (as you find in a fitness centre, but in more robust materials) in a public park. So it's not a fitness centre (it has no opening hours, no building, no name ...) and it's also not a fitness trail (as all things are on the same spot).

Currently I tagged the location with a fixme note: http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/node/1736717710

I hope some people here can propose a tag that would also work for this case. --Sanderd17 23:01, 30 April 2012 (BST)

After a suggestion, I'll be tagging this as leisure=fitness_station --Sanderd17 14:46, 22 June 2012 (BST)

Nordic Walking Routes

I think a Nordic Walking Route also is a fitness trail

Nodic Walking exercise post
  • is used for exercising the human body to promote good health
  • has different stations with instructions for exercises
  • but it does not fit to the german description ("Trimm-Dich-Pfad") and is not equipped with obstacles.

What do you advise? --Rennhenn 08:06, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
