Nice feature in countries with bad road conditions.
Brazil
In Brazil these shops comes in two categories, those who sells tyres, and those who only services tyres (you have to bring spare tyres from some other place). I have until now not seen any that only sell tyres without doing services, but since there is a market for those only doing services I guess there are some ways of getting tyres outside the organized stores. How do I tag if they sell or do not sell tyres? How do I tag if they have additional services or not? --Skippern (talk) 22:03, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
shop group?
To me these places are like mechanics, they repair your car, e.g. when you have a flat tire, and they adjust the wheels after replacing the tires. Shop does not fit very well as a group. —Dieterdreist (talk) 10:17, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
- I am perfectly fine with changing group to a different if you see a better one (personally I am dubious about benefits of this grouping but...) Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 10:52, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
- Digging 1 cm deeper, I found that mechanics are group=shop as well (shop=car_repair), while they could have also been craft=car_repair or car_mechanic. In this light I agree that the shop group fits well with tires (as well as possible with the existing ambiguities). I think the underlying issue is that shop is not completely well defined, as it is for places selling goods or services, and hence it could comprise almost every business which is end customer related, while sometimes we do have different tags as well. E.g. amenity=post_office is also selling goods and services. office=estate_agent is also selling a service, amenity=bicycle_rental (and many other rentals) could also be seen as shops, as could amenity=car_wash be seen as selling a service. IMHO it would be clearer if we restricted shop=* to places that sell goods, and have another tag for places selling services (e.g. amenity, or maybe sometimes craft). FWIW, I also never quite understood the point of "group", as this is either clear from the main key, or it is a property which can possibly be in tens of groups anyway. --Dieterdreist (talk) 11:19, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
