The pitch must be located within an area tagged tourism=camp_site

According to the article, a camp pitch must be within a tourism=camp_site. At least for backcountry camp pitches, I don't believe this is correct. --Popball (talk) 10:52, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Well, the only case I can think of where this will make sense without being inside a tourism=camp_site polygon is when you have a node shaped object tagged tourism=camp_site that is part of a a site relation as I support them on opencampingmap.

But please let us discuss tagging on the tagging Mailinglist or in the forum. This wiki function is not well suited for this and is actually there only because OSM just uses Mediawiki which unfortunately has this function.

backcountry camp and other small "stand alone area for camping" are well tagged as tourism=camp_site (_site is the 1st "level", _pitch a subarea of the 1st level. in the same logic that a small parking is still a amenity=parking and parking_space are a sub-area of a amenity=parking) Marc marc (talk) 16:24, 16 August 2022 (UTC)

What about camp sites which have official or informal (or both) names?

Should the official name be tagged with the name, official _name or ref tag? What about a campsite which has both an official ref and a (possibly unofficial) name? This occasionally comes up with back country campsites. HMWamboldt (talk) 18:49, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
