Talk:Tag:waterway=drystream
element of relief
The text says: waterway=drystream should be considered as an element of relief, not hydrography. - In that case it should not be assigned to "waterway". It should be found under the same key as valleys for example. Why not use natural=ravine, natural=gully, natural=rill, etc.? --Gauß (talk) 17:21, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
- Yes. I agree. more correct tag is natural=drystream. We will think about it. --EugenyN (talk) 19:54, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
- What would be the difference to natural=gully? --Gauß (talk) 11:17, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
- Gully significantly larger and deeper. For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gully#/media/File:A_gully_(Budanova_Gora)_1.jpg Drystream size like stream. Gully need to draw on the top edge, drystream - along the bed. In gully wiki written "This tag could also be used for steep earth bank, small erosion trench.", perhaps "small erosion trench" should be removed. also, old drystream may not have the exposed soil --EugenyN (talk) 15:41, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- As natural=riverbed exists it would be a logical extension to have natural=streambed Warin61 (talk) 06:57, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
seasonal
If it is seasonal the key:seasonal should be used, not intermittent Warin61 (talk) 04:52, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Rationale
Why was Tag:waterway=wadi abandoned, but waterway=drystream not? waterway=drystream could be mapped as waterway=stream + intermittent/seasonal=yes as well.--Ethylisocyanat (talk) 18:03, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
The proposal status is 'draft' meaning it has never been advanced to a formal proposal ('proposed'), nor voted on. Considering the age of the proposal maybe the status should be 'abandoned'? Warin61 (talk) 00:06, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
Recommend deprecation
We already deprecated waterway=wadi, and this is a synonym. It can almost always be mapped as waterway= + intermittent=yes or if not, then as a natural=valley or natural=gully. It's also possible to map the cliff along the side, or an area of bare rock with other tags. So this tag should be discouraged. --Jeisenbe (talk) 06:03, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
