[nasty BUG] This template should appear in Category:Map Features template but pages using it shoudn't
This template should appear in Category:Map Features template but pages using it shoudn't. I don't know how to resolve it right now. Xxzme (talk) 10:50, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- Fixed now? [1], [2]. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 13:52, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Should Template:Map Features:smoothness and Template:Description:smoothness be merged?
But I have more question: now we have Template:Map Features:smoothness and Template:Description:smoothness - should we prefer one? Both listed in Category:Map Features template Xxzme (talk) 14:26, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- I am not sure if I understand correctly. Hmm, do you mean that only Template:Map Features:smoothness should be listed in that cat since the other one, Template:Description:smoothness, is just a subtemplate? I would have not really a opinion regarding this. Those categories seem to quite messy also from other POVs. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 14:37, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- I see now. I still don't understand details how do they work (no need in this), can you tell me if it possible to create single template from them? Because every other map feature template contained within single template page Xxzme (talk) 17:51, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, that would be possible of course. However, they were split by intention apparently. See the explanation at Template:Map_Features:smoothness#Translation. One for the structure / layout and one for the translation. Can you tell me why the two pieces are uncomfortable or bad? --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 19:51, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
- Well you can observe Category:Map Features template for yourself. Single template vs tempalte+langstrings - it doesn't matter IMO. I'd like to stick with single approach. Most templates (50 vs 1 about smoothness) use template and copy paste both translating structure and langstrings. This is prone to errors, I was really surprised when saw people people don't how template thing work. Sometimes users copy/paste whole Map_Features template (i.e. without {{Map_Features_Temlate}}): Category:Ge:Map_Features_template. I'd rather stick "single structure for every language", than "possibly useful custom layouts gone wrong per language". But there will be so much work to change things, what do you think about this? Xxzme (talk) 01:31, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
- I really would not change this now, sorry. How to translate is clearly documented at the main template Template:Map Features:smoothness. Did you see actual translation errors with it? I do not see the need to change this one here. There are much more important things TODO in the wiki. If you want to change it, please find out how and ask the creators for comments. And if you only care for the sorting in the category, that can be fixed so both templates are together at one place. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 02:47, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
