Background

Originally from Braunschweig (view) in northern Germany (view), I've been living in Windhoek since March 2006. Whenever I have some time (and my Garmin eTrex Vista HCx) I'm OSMing on the WikiProject Namibia - mapping mostly the southern and central Windhoek areas.

Main Contributions to OSM

• I wrote the current version of the Namibian Tagging Standards and continuously work on adjusting Namibia's portion of the map accordingly
• Although still far from complete, what you find on OSM in the following areas was mostly mapped by me:
  • Cimbebasia
  • Kleine Kuppe
  • Olympia
  • Hochlandpark
  • Windhoek West (especially the Polytechnic's main campus) (in progress)
  • Ludwigsdorf (in progress)
  • Klein Windhoek (in progress)

• Waterberg Hike
• "Auas Mountain Peak Hike" (inofficial, restricted access)

Mapping Tools Used

I usually capture tracks with my Garmin eTrex Vista HCx (often by driving around on a Quadbike), download and clean the raw GPX data with QLandkarte/GT, and then edit and upload to OSM using Merkaartor (currently using 0.16-svn). Everything runs under Debian GNU/Linux, together with a large bunch of standard and custom tools and scripts.

Donations

The Internet in Namibia must be the slowest one in the world (well, yes - there is only one I suppose...). However, if you feel like having too much money, I'd be happy to receive planet.osm files on DVD :-)
