Hi, I am Jens Kammann and I used to work for the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Institute of Communications and Navigation. This group developed location aware applications for the upcoming Galileo Satellite Navigation System, which is how I came across openstreetmap in 2005.
Since then, I am collecting GPS traces – mainly in the area around Munich using several different GPS receivers:
- An old, but very reliable GARMIN III+ which has limited storage (1500 waypoints) but has never failed so far even in worse circumstances
- A RoyalTek 3000 Bluetooth GPS receiver with a storage capacity of 30.000 waypoints – a very convenient device for strolls by bike
- A Samsung SGH-I550 Symbian series 60, 3rd edition based UTMS phone with build-in Asisted GPS receiver. After upgrading to the latest firmware XEHE1, the aquisition time for the GPS receiver has dropped to an acceptable duration.
I am doing all conversions of the NMEA sentences using GPS Babel
