About me
Cycling around in Erlangen, Germany. My OSM work is mostly dedicated to cycle routes, but also completing the map when I find white spots. Also I'm working on generating a routable cycle map for Garmin GPS units (see below).
Routable cycle map for Garmin GPS units
I am really excited about auto routing for cyclist. The currently available routable Garmin maps work somehow, but they are not optimal. Therefore I started to make my own routable cyclemap for my Garmin Oregon 300. But first a list of resources if you are interested in routable and/or cycle maps for Garmin GPS units:
- OSM_Map_On_Garmin and OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Cycle_map are the official wiki pages for Garmin maps.
- OSM_Map_On_Garmin/mtb_map is a description how to create a topographical MTB map for Garmin.
- OSM_Composer is the wiki page for the OSM Composer. This is a nice GUI for generating your own maps. It is written in Java, but obviously mainly for Windows. I was struggling with the prerequisites needed to run this program, but it might be exactly what you want to create your own maps.
- http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=26 is the OpenStreetMap forum for Garmin maps.
My own routable cycle map for Germany called "Radkarte" is available at User:Radfahrer/Radkarte. The build script and config files are available at http://launchpad.net/radkarte.
