Great work! Thanks for getting the ball rolling on a potential importance-based trunk classification scheme in California, which I support. I mostly concur with your identification of principal connections in Northern CA, they match what I would say are the main routes connecting major locales. Here are the few pieces of feedback I have:
- I think you could argue for US 97 being trunk as the main route from Bend, OR to Redding and points south
- I haven’t been able to make heads or tails from afar of what to do with CA 70 and CA 99 between Sacramento and Chico. It seems odd to have two trunks so closely parallel, but maybe there’s local context I’m missing (I’ve never been on these roads personally). Are they really both of equal importance?
- I’m not convinced Grass Valley (pop. 12,000) is an important enough destination to have CA 49 be trunk from Auburn. I agree that CA 20 serves enough connective purpose as the Yuba City-Reno route to be trunk/motorway through Grass Valley, but I’m not sure CA 49 is the main route between any two major locales
- Does this proposal implicitly downgrade the current trunks CA 29 and 53 around Clear Lake? Not that I am opposed, but I am not personally familiar with that area. --Willkmis (talk) 19:21, 23 October 2021 (UTC)willkmis
