Major change in French signalling tagging scheme
Hi Noeld, I noticed you changed the tagging scheme significantly in the change https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=OpenRailwayMap%2FTagging_in_France&type=revision&diff=2707725&oldid=2707696.
This scheme diverges from every other country because of the use of railway:signal
for everything.
Can you add the type of signal (main, distant, speed_limit, speed_limit_distant) back, so that non-country-specific renderers can also interpret the data correctly?
The new schema is also very difficult to parse for renderers because of the use of indices for referencing of multiple signals, instead of having them as separate keys. See https://github.com/hiddewie/OpenRailwayMap-vector/pull/50 for an example on rendering French signalling of the previous version of the tagging scheme. This becomes impossible with the new scheme.
new tags
Hello. Please use Proposal process for suggesting new tags. On the Wiki in the main namespace we document only tags that are in use or approved. My message refers to Tag:railway:signal:distant:plates=FR:A, Tag:railway:signal:distant:plates=FR:D, Tag:railway:signal:main:plates=FR:BM and Tag:railway:signal:main:plates=FR:PR maro21 18:04, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Updates
These pages and tags are under development, some parts are experimental. The original tagging scheme has been restored. From now on, there is only one signal with an identifier per node. Some new tags are also experimental and not yet ready to be proposed; existing tags are used as much as possible where appropriate. A team from the French railway company should be soon involved in the tagging, so further updates may result from these discussions. Tag proposals will be issued when they are ready. Thank you. --noeld (talk) 22:01, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
