INT 1 tagging convention
I have for some time tried to document INT 1 symbols and their OSM tags. I understand you are involved in OpenSeaMap and would like to invite all marine tagging schemes to a common online worksshop in order to unify marine tagging in the hope to get one common standard for all who are interested in marine tagging. I am also in paralell to this trying to develop a complete INT-1 tagging preset for use in JOSM (maybe in conjunction with the OpenSeaMap plugin). I hope that we can finally agree between OpenSeaMap, FreieTonne and the other marine mappers how to handle all INT-1 symbols, wether they are seamarks, or other features into one complete uniform standard in order to create the best free map in the world. Yes, I am involved in OpenSeaMap and of course I am interested in a standardization of marine tagging schemes although I fear that this will be very difficult. OpenSeamap's tagging is based on S-57 (IHO Transfer Standard for Digital Hydrographic Data) and not INT-1 although the latter is covered by S-57. Thus your INT-1 tagging should be fully compatible. Freietonne does not really have any kind of scheme. They simply assign an id to the objects which are then rendered to their "id translation table" accordingly.
I appreciate such a discussion :) I'd prefer to switch to mail (we should probably create a separate mailing list) because it is much more convenient and less confusing than this Wiki discussions. Rahra 07:16, 1 September 2012 (BST)
- Thanks for respons. I have had trouble finding any documentation of what OpenSeaMap actually have been using, and are glad to hear that my list is compatible with OpenSeaMap. I have tried to do a similar documentation of S-57 but the work load and duplication of data forced me to abandon this. I could use some of my INT-1 sources to cross-reference INT-1 to S-57, but feel that information would mostly be interested to a very small fraction, which mostly have access to this documentation from other sources anyway. Please keep me informed on any mailing lists as I sure would like to have my input in any further discussions about navigational and nautical tagging in OpenStreetMap, I myself hope to get an INT-1 rendering going but need more time to make a stylesheet for such rendering, and secondly somewhere to host a tile server. IMO OpenStreetMap tags should have good enough resolution to cover differences between INT-1, S-57 and ECDIS rendering. Please post on my talk when any mailing list are open. I have also put my name up on the WikiProject Marine page, let us start building this WikiProject community and mailing list and continue the discussion in those fora. --Skippern 17:20, 1 September 2012 (BST)
- Marine navigation traditionally was always and still is mostly based on paper charts. This is why I am working on a specific paper chart renderer for sea charts called Smrender, just in case if you didn't here about it yet. It is relatively easy to create rendering rules for it, hence, you might try to use it to implement first charts with your scheme. Thanks a lot for contributing to the OSM-Wiki! Here's a tip to make your contributions more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how: You can pick the page from your list of contributions, edit the page description, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
- [[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are edit the page "Christmas Party 2012", you add the following code:
- [[Category:Events]]
This will make the Page show up in the categories "Events".

Hello! And sorry for bothering you, but description of file you uploaded need to be improved.
You have uploaded file which is licensed as requiring attribution. But right now attribution is not specified properly.
Please, ask for help if something is confusing or unclear in this message.
Please, fix that problem with this uploads - note that images with unclear licensing situation may be deleted.
Attribution may be missing completely or just be specified in nonstandard way, in either case it needs to be improved. Note that using CC-BY files without specifying attribution is a copyright violation, which is often unethical and unwanted. So clearly specifying required attribution is needed if license which makes attribution mandatory was used.
If it is applying to your own work which not based on work by others - then you can select own user name or some other preferred attribution or even change license to for example {{CC0-self}}
For your own work: ensure that it is clearly stated at file page that you created image/took the photo/etc
For works by others - please ensure that there is link to the original source which confirms license and that you used proper attribution, or that source is clearly stated in some other way.
Especially for old OSM-baded maps, made from data before license change on 12 September 2012 you should use "map data © OpenStreetMap contributors" as at least part of attribution
For old OSM Carto maps, which predate license change on 12 September 2012 you can use a special template {{OSM Carto screenshot||old_license}}
