Youth Mappers UWI Mona Chapter
About
History
Initially known as Libraries Outreach-ODL, the Youth Mappers UWI Mona Chapter was founded in 2018 by Benjamin Dewayne Branch, the Deputy Campus Librarian at the time. The chapter eventually became dormant and was reignited after the Geography and Geology Department at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus secured funding to send two student representatives, Caitlin Milne, and Rodane Samuels, to the January 2023 YouthMappers Leadership Fellows Summit, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. With the help of the Youth Mappers Team, and their chosen faculty advisor, Dr Thera Edwards, the two representatives underwent the process to reignite, rename and relocate the chapter that same month. The chapter was officially relaunched on Thursday 30 March 2023. The chapter is located and affiliated with the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus and is the first Youth Mappers Chapter to be launched in Jamaica.
Goals/Mission
We aim to create a community of mappers on the UWI Mona Campus to learn together and work to map our country and the Caribbean region as a whole for a brighter tomorrow. We aim to connect our community with the wider Youth Mappers Family - a supportive and friendly community, full of great people, and wonderful opportunities.

Our Organization is a member of the YouthMappers Network. To learn about this global university consortium go to their OSM wiki linked here or visit their website at youthmappers.org.
