Waterloo region/Import
Open Data programs for Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and the Region of Waterloo are licensed under their respective open government licenses. These "OGL" licenses are not the standard OGL, as they each contain independent edits not found in the approved licenses. Of these, we so far have a statement from the City of Kitchener confirming compatibility with OSM. Until the other respective governments provide similar statements, or the Licensing Working Group provides affirmation that the respective licenses are compatible with the OGL, do not use open data from any of these sources other than Kitchener. The open data portal search of each will include results from the others, as well as data not openly licensed at all, so be sure to check the source before using it.
Address Data
Aside from the (ostensibly) Open Data by the respective cities and the region, the federal government has made national address data under the more standard OGL license. A version of the address data constrained to Waterloo Region is available for easier use. The respective governments do have their own address data, which is the most prominent source for the federal data.
