Uncategorized Categories

The categorization of uncategorized categories is an on-going need which can be diminished but not completely eliminated.

As of 11 November 2010, there remain only 35 uncategorized categories, down from several hundred a couple of months ago. See http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Special:UncategorizedCategories for current listing. As people add new categories, this will increase in size. Also, when people typically want to delete a category, they are not using Template:Delete but simply blanking the page and/or indicating in the edit summary it needs to be deleted. Making use of the 'delete' template to request deletions of categories would help to reduce growth of the category. Another source of uncategorized categories is the auto-application of categories not previoulsy instantiated by Template:Place (for instance). --Ceyockey 13:00, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
