Information About the Project
What is the problem that you are working to address in your community?
(In this section please describe in detail the challenge that your project addresses. We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
FLOOD
Kyela is one of the seven districts of Mbeya region and located Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by Rungwe District, to the northest by Njombe Region, to the southeast by Lake Nyasa, to the South by Malawi and to the west by Ileje District.
Whereby; the impact of floods have been triggered by ongoing substantial rains in month between March and May at the Rungwe Mountains which cause Mbaka, Kiwira, Songwe and Lufilyo rivers that pour its water on Lake Nyasa to overflow and cause flooding in the lowlands.
The following are impacts of floods; lead to death of people hence reduction of manpower, poverty, orphans, refugees, destruction of agricultural products like paddy, hence hunger and disappearance of natural species. Forexample in April 2021 there was occurrence of floods in Kyela Districts especially in the following wards:- Mwaya, Katumbasongwe and Kajunjumele and Bujonde. Additional to that in 2019, a total of 1990 displaced people were accommodated in 14 camps. Fortunately, the remaining survivors have been given refuge by relatives and friends.
Therefore, the aim of there are a need collecting data concerning the flood victims, education provision after collecting and studying data to the community concern as said wards above to propose the best way to reduce or to eradicate (overcome) the flood at kyela district.
What motivates you to work on this issue?
(what is the reason that triggered, inspired you to work on this issue, we recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
The motivation behind working on this issue is the real which is inside pushing me to fight against the negative outcome of the flood which are as follows
The flood causes hunger where by many people being victim and suffer much from hunger when I see the situation I always want with a big desire to help them so as to come from hunger
Because of flood there is wastage of man power in the society so due to the death of people inspired us to deal with it because we need to fight against the man power wastage.
There also need of looking for the clear and well method of preventing environment and infrastructure. This mean we proposed to deal with flood because we need to preserve and preventing the environment and infrastructure from the destruction caused by flood. For example destruction of Mbaka bridge that causing the problem to people to move across.
The death rate this mean that we need to find the best way of reducing the number of death which caused by flood because the death rate made the society to be unwell.
Have you worked on solving the same issue before?
No
If yes, what have you already done to solve this issue?
(Please be specific and highlight your greatest accomplishments,We recommend your response be aminimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)If none, write N/A

If yes, what challenges have you faced in your work to solve this issue, and how did you respond to these challenges?
(Please be specific and highlight your biggest challenges and how did you solve them,We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.) If none, write N/A
N/A
If no, what do you anticipate as challenges while working towards solving the issue?
(Please be specific and highlight the biggest challenge you might face when working on this project ,We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)If none, write N/A
The challenges which anticipate us to deal with this issue as follows:-
Firstly is illiteracy of people this mean that we need to provide education about flood in the society concerning the impact of flood especially to the people living nearby the river channel so as to escape the unnecessary disasters.
Secondly I also understand that some areas being affected are found in the remoteness areas so we need to made them shift from where they have been to the safe areas so as to get good assistance from the government and NGO’s.
Thirdly, There is also acceptance challenges where by if you meet new people there must be hesitation unto the hosts, you lool like stranger to them there is a need to take time to be accepted
Describe your sustainability plan
(In this section please describe how your activities will continue post-funding. If you are applying for funding to purchase equipment, explain who will store/use the equipment you purchase, and if you have long term sustainability plans for your community's development. We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
Sustainability plan is like as follows
The project will involve defining, identifying and mapping of rivers located at Kyela for example Mbaka, Kiwira, songwe and Lufilyo river and physical infrastructures affected by floods then from that analysis using inundation maps that will help to visualize spatial data for the affected physical infrastructures that has been never put in a map representation before. For example getting data concerning affected school, dispensaries, residential houses, government offices. Therefore all data that will be collected from this project will sustained through a partnership with a public and private organization and to propose the best way to eradicate or reduce the rate of flood.
Project Goal
What are your community defined project goals
(Please explain your project goals. This can include: setting goals such as "we will train X number of new community, "we will register as a legal entity", or "the data will be used by X", and why these goals are important to your community such as "we intend to engage X number of women in mapping activities so that we can empower local women” We recommend your response be a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
These are goals of the project
The project goal is to eradicate or reduce negative effects resulted by floods. Through mapping will help to identifying all remote areas where floods are occurring. As the days going on, at Kyela we experience the floods that endangers the life of people. This goal will be achieved by the following setting goals:
Standing at serious providing education about flood in the affected area and in the near by society. We will train 10 people from each village in a ward at Kyela District especially affected by floods. In order to reach and achieve this goal will register and train a community group (10 people in a village) that will represent others as a sample. This sample will involve both men and women. Whereby 3 numbers are men and 7are women. The goal is important because we want to empower women in mapping activities. Collected data which will help the society and government to review where it come from and were its going
What are your project long-term goals?
(Please describe your project vision. This can include: where you see your project in five years' time, how you want your data to be used, future partnerships you'd like to establish, or how you would like your project to grow (or not!). We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words)
All data collected will be significantly and used in the council planning the area. For example place for construction of building, offices, place for farming and cultivation (agricultural activities) and area rounding sources of water, water channel
We will also make a partnership with the government (local government) and other Non-government organization (NGO’s) and individual group so as to reach the large number of the community
To expand the project by training the other trainees who will be able to train others who will stand for the development of the project and it will be easily to provide education and reach the large number of community
To collect data which will be used by Government and Non government organization (NGO’s) and individuals people so as to solve the different disaster such as hunger and locast attack
List the tools you intend to use during your project and why
(Please describe which tools you plan to use to collect, update, clean, or store you data and why. We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
In this project we are intended to use different types of tools which can lead us to accomplish our project as follows
Lop top this can help us to save data and analyse it so as can be well organisedand stored properly
Smart phones in this poject also we are intended to usethe smart phone(android phone) which can help us to collect data in the field for example to map the areas which have been affected floods
Notebook and pens are very useful tool in the field and most important because it help to note down some hints in the field and also it useful to both trainer and trainees during provision of education about the floods.
Projector thiskind of tool is used durind the provision of education and the presenting the data to the community.
Site suit( uniform) this tool can help the trainer and data collector to be distringuished from other and also can be an identification
What additional knowledge or skills do you need to improve the effectiveness of the project?
(if there is any addition training you will need example how to use open source tools ,how to write good report etc please identify them below and why, We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.) If none, write N/A
We need to be added the skills of the usage of open maps including ODK because this are the things that will enable us in implementing the project by compiling information more accurate and be able to put them in a required system. Moreover it is safe Carrying large quantities of paper surveys may pose security risks to your collectors, as they can be easily identified and targeted as individuals that may have data others want to obtain or destroy. Using electronic devices minimizes the risk of the data being stolen, and also protects survey collectors from being easily identified. Also is easy to use since there is no need of internet connectivity during surveying work that minimal money can be used on purchasing bundles.
Explain how you plan to share your stories
(Please give examples of how you will use to share your stories with others. This can include: how you will publicise your news, where you will collect media content, how you will use social media channels, and if you will reach out beyond your immediate network to share your stories. We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
We will share the stories by using a primary and secondary sources like; radio, journalism and others sources of information such as social media like Facebook, instagram, you tube, LinkedIn, Twitter, Website etc that will enable the society member to get information at any time causing a progressive education and rapid news spread about flood. Therefore it will help even another society to learn, be aware for and protect themselves against floods and get rid of harm caused by flood and so bringing progress in the society.
Ownership
Describe who will own/access and use the data
(It is important that the data you generate during the project is useful, and that it will be used to advance humanitarian and/or development challenges locally. In this section, please include: if the data you will be collecting has been requested by who , if there is an established formal relationship with any organization , and if there is an existing MoU between you and the partnering organisation, and how long have you been working with the partnering organisation. If your organisation or community is going to be the data user, please describe how will they use the data, and how they will access the data also is there possibility of other similar organizations to access and own the data . We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 400 words.)
The gathered information will be possessed by the society, government and institution which are involved in fund disaster for example Red Cross and our data. Through this project the organization which deal with flood disaster will have the accesse to know the important informmation through data and this can help the community to reduce the problem that affect the people. Also can help other sponsors to reach the society because the main information will be available through social media, website and other source of information so it can be easy for every persson, organization and government to get perfect data and it is used to advance humanitarian and development challenges and this is very important for the society during the season of flood.
Describe any other community/organization you plan to approach and share data for the purpose of the project impact
(In this section, please describe any additional partners you might be working with or share data with since they have indicated the need of data that will be collected. If there are no additional partners (beyond the data user) this must be stated here. We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.) if none write N/A
In order to get a good result of the project we will cooperate with the government and other sponsors like Red Cross and our data. because after completing the project the data that we already collect will help the community, government and organization which deal with flood to know how they can reduce some disaster that affect the community through the data which will collected and also the community may understand what they suppossed to do during flood.
Inclusion
How will you ensure that your project activities will consider gender/children?
(Please describe how you will engage women/girls and school children in your project activities. Please include the number of women, girls or marginalized groups you plan to work with and how, and at which point in your activities you plan to engage them. We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words).
Will give the first priority to women and children in giving flood education because they are the mostly affected ones to flood. we will like engage many women than men because in our socity women is the one who not involved in activity and the reason is lack of information because the women know that they are not important to attend to the meeting or activities which are dealing for development to the community or in the society so we go to empower women by givin education. Also we will concider the children which are in the school by giving education of flood and how they can get important information or data.
Open Knowledge Evolution
Explain how you plan to expand your mapping community
(In this section, please include: your approach of working in a peripheral area to expand the knowledge, how will you engage new members from an unexposed community, how many new members you plan to recruit, and how will you retain community members throughout the duration of the project and beyond. We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
We will extend the map of the society by educating them concerning the usage of their map and this may help them to get data easy through the education which we will gave.A lso we will engage new member of OSM by training how open street map used this can helpe them to seach and study any data easly, and we plan to train 20 member in three ward in order them to train other member in the community. and through this plan we will expand the high number of community mapping.
Cooperation
Describe the communities you are already working with
(This may include local government, private sector, institutions or OSM communities (as examples). If you are not already working with any of the above communities, please state this and explain how you plan to work with other communities in your project. We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
We already work with open map development Tanzania in 2019 at kyela district by mapping the all ward which are found in kyela district in order to show the boundery between deen and deen. Also the society will be ready to participate in this flood project because we will conduct sitting with leaders of the ward level and villages who will help us to influence people to participate in this project. Also people will be educated concerning flood. So this can help us to work easly with community by using the ways maintioned above bacause after the project the community will able to own and use the data that we already collected.
Describe other communities you plan to approach, or establish relationships with, for the purpose of the project
(We recommend your response be a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words.)
We will initiate cooperative with religious institutions, gender inclusive participation, formation of community base flood management commette and a village desaster prevantion and control commette so as to help each other to abolish the flood disasters. we can establish community based approaches flood managment especially in kyela district. will help capabilities in flood prone in kyela also we can initiate associated program of flood managment, global water partnership worked along side of the river Mbaka,Lufilyo, kiwila. the program implimented risk asessmet and predness measures on reducing impact of flood. Community centered approach and to reduce negative impact of flood while enhancing community preparedness and resilience to flood event.
