July 8, 2024 regular meeting of the OpenStreetMap United States Board of Directors

Call to Order

Diane called the meeting to order at 2:00pm, Eastern, via video conference.

Present:

• Diane Fritz, President
• Maggie Cawley, Executive Director
• Matthew Whilden, Secretary
• Harrison Devine, incoming Treasurer
• Levente Juhasz, incoming Vice President
• Priyanka Miller, at large

Approval of Minutes

• May minutes - approved

Reports

• The Executive Director (ED) provided an update to the board on OSM US’s activities over the prior month.
  • SotMUS - Successfully completed the conference
  • Quincy joined as full time staff
    • Taking over some of the program meetings
    • Expansion of tech responsibilities
  • EDU Sandbox
    • GeoCompas was contracted to support back end development
    • Half way done
  • The National Park Service reached out about sponsorship.
  • Hiring for tech position and program coordinator continues. Targeting end of July.
  • MASS GIS - organizational membership added. Associate level
  • Maggie continues outreach to UT and other state agencies.
  • Maggie headed to ESRI user conference San Diego next week.

Old Business

• SotMUS 2024
  • Sunday being sessionless seems very positive
  • Open Thursday afternoon for workshops?
  • Add more targeted activities for folks coming with little to no OSM experience
  • Someone from Board should attend SotM planning meeting
  • Add more explicit planning around larger sub-categories of Day Of tasks to spread out the delegation
• SotMUS Code of Conduct
  • How to better make conference organizers (delegated individuals for certain duties - registration, catering, etc.) and the CoC committee available to attendees

New Business

• Levente’s potential grant collaboration
  • OSM US as a collaborator in an NSF research proposal
• Local Chapters and Communities Working Group
  • Seeking another member to attend. Meetings are usually 8:00am ET once a month
• Setting up an Advisory Committee - Maggie discussed having someone with Legal background on that board
