The Key central_island:traversable=* is used to specify whether a central island of a roundabout is traversable.
To be considered traversable, you should be able to drive over the central island without risking any form of damage. This could be due to the central island just being a painted circle on the ground, or an island with lowered kerbs.
How to map
Map the roundabout as way with junction=roundabout and add central_island:traversable=yes to mark the central island as traversable.
If the roundabout is too small to be mapped as a way, you can alternatively map it as a junction node with highway=mini_roundabout.
When to use which
- A highway=mini_roundabout can only be mapped as a node, while a junction=roundabout must be mapped as a way
- If at least one of the roads leading into the roundabout has their lanes split in OSM (e.g. because of a traffic island), use a junction=roundabout with central_island:traversable=yes
- If the junction itself is so small that a routing direction like "turn left" makes more sense than "take the third exit", use a highway=mini_roundabout
