import_uuid=* identifies objects from a specific import. UUID is short for universally unique identifier.
See the Import Guidelines for conducting imports. import_uuid=* is not recommended there.
There appears to be no official documentation by users of import_uuid. Nearly all uses came from 3 imports in the United States, from about 2008-09, involving GNIS, NHD, and other government data. Some of these imports were from before the concept of changesets were introduced to OSM. Nowadays this kind of metadata might be tagged on an import's changesets rather than tagging every imported object.
A single UUID can apply to multiple changesets.
- Example: changeset 85362 and changeset 203041 both used import_uuid=bb7269ee-502a-5391-8056-e3ce0e66489c.
