Description

This tag used to be added to bus or tram stops operated by De Lijn, a public transport company serving Flanders in Belgium. Some bus routes have short extensions to other Belgian regions, but also to Netherlands and France.

The tag is a 2-digit figure, which is visible on stop signs.

Since 2015, De Lijn no longer use fare zones. New stop signs do not show this information anymore. While there has been no initiative to remove fare zone data from OSM, this tag currently has no use.

History

In the first years, fare information was mapped as zone=*. Some stops can still be found with this tag instead of zone:De_Lijn=*. However, this tagging scheme was quickly abandoned because every Belgian operator used its own zone system, and the tag would be ambiguous in border territories where several operators use the same stop.
