This edit will remove damage:event=nepal_earthquake_2015 + idp:camp_site=spontaneous_camp objects as incorrect, outdated and not wanted.

Cases of damage:event=nepal_earthquake_2015 + idp:camp_site=spontaneous_camp + building=* tagging need to be resolved manually, help is welcomed here.

Removing damage:event=nepal_earthquake_2015 + idp:camp_site=spontaneous_camp geometries.

Why

This objects are outdated, unwanted, incorrect, confusing and numerous. It makes editing harder for mappers, especially beginners.

I believe that in this case remote automated mass edit is acceptable as it removes clearly incorrect remains of organised mass edit (I would not run import of addresses or buildings in Nepal given lack of ground knowledge).

I asked on HOT mailing list and got confirmation that removal is acceptable and recommended.

How

For example https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/341110446/history would be deleted

  • Use JOSM Overpass query to download affected data:

  • Locate cases with building=*, amenity=*, place=* etc tags and resolve it manually (happening already)
  • Select geometries, ensure that tags are only for attributes of idp:camp_site=spontaneous_camp objects (it means that objects with also for example building=* will be skipped or processed manually).
  • Delete selected geometries
