Cycleways
Name | Notes | Relation |
---|---|---|
The Big Track | 16km loop along the Nottingham and Beeston Canal then back along the Trent - Mapped in full on the main loop. There are also spurs from the route but these appear to be unmarked on the ground. | 1387699 1387699 |
Erewash Valley Trail | 50km loop along the River Erewash and Erewash Canal from the River Trent to Nutbrook - Mapped in full on the main loop. Has many Loops and spurs - some suitable for pedestrians only. | 1565330 1565330 |
NCN Route 15 | Runs from Belton, Leics to Grantham. Signed on the ground (and mapped in OSM) between Belton and East Midlands Airport; from Wilford Toll Bridge to Radcliffe-on-Trent; from the Fosseway through Bingham and then along the A52 corridor to Bottersford; Muston to Grantham. The rest of the route is currently unsigned, but the Sustrans' website implies that the link from Wilford to the M1 will be down the A453, presumably along the old road if that is eventually duelled. Has been rerouted during 2010 between Regatta Way and Radcliffe-on-Trent - the old signs remain in-situ alongside the A6011 and A52, but new signs have been installed through Lady Bay and Holme Pierrpont. | 913519 913519 |
NCN Route 48 (Fosse 2) | Due to be routed along the former A46 Fosse Way once the new dual carriageway is opened (i.e. summer 2012). Mapped as far north as Nether Broughton (Leics) | 1566504 1566504 |
Southwell Trail | Runs between Southwell, Farnsfield and Bilsthorpe. It's been walked as far as the car park in Southwell (is there any more?), added to OSM and added to relation . | 82009 82009 |
Footpaths
Long-distance Paths
Two long-distance footpaths are shown on OS maps for the county: The Trent Valley Way and the Robin Hood Way. Neither appears to be particularly well signposted on the ground, nor do they feature in County Council publicity.
Name | Notes | Relation |
---|---|---|
The Archaeological Way (old) | Confusingly, there are two of these that start from nearly the same place. This is the old one. It runs from Pleasley Vale to Whitwell. Signposting is a bit hit and miss, but a GPX has been uploaded to OSM containing both signposts and places where there should be signposts. It's tagged "Archaeological Way". It's not complete but does provide enough information to follow the entire route from Pleasley Vale car park to Whitwell church. | 176673 176673 |
The Archaeological Way (new) | Confusingly, there are two of these that start from nearly the same place. This is the new one. According to [1] it runs from Pleasley Pit Country Park to Creswell Crags. Note that what signage there is contradicts DCC's website. Neither the partially signposted route nor the map on DCC's website yet indicate a coherent route. There is also a (rather large and mostly content-free) mobile phone app. All DCC's materials appear to be CC-BY-SA 4.0 and hence incompatible with OSM. | 7581768 7581768 |
Robin Hood Way | The waymark for this trail is a green or yellow bow and arrow on a white background, but it can be difficult to follow as many of the signs are old and faded. Start point is shown on a plaque embedded in the wall just outside the entrance to Nottingham Castle. | 1652131 1652131 |
The Trent Valley Way | This is signed on the ground alongside the River Trent through Nottingham/Wilford/Clifton, on both sides of the river. | 162862 162862 |
Public Footpaths
Many paths shown on OSM have been entered from NPE maps and need checking on the ground.
