Discussion
- This could be really messy, and is it really nessesery? You can see who has created a feature by the created_by tag. If people just start putting nodes where ever they have been it would be a mess, but also this information is irrelevent. If anyone could add a tag I imagin places like the tower of London accumulating thosands of tags wich are completely pointless, and infact get in the way. If OSM editor programs operated more like wiki's in themselves and allowed you to see editing history this would be clear anyway. If it is really nessesery at least there should be a way of just adding many names all to 1 node. Ben. 17:47 16th February 2007 (UTC)
- The created_by tag is not supposed to carry details about the person who edited a feature, but the program used to do it. I think it would be nice to see what you have done, but I don't think it is that useful. -- Bruce89 18:12, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- hmm, I've been using it incorrectly then, and so have others it would seem. The program itself doesn't create it, the user does, which is why I asumed that it was for the users name. I would have thourght a users name is more helpful than just knowing that 'josm', or whatever program, was used to make the changes. Ben. 00:37 20th February 2007 (UTC)
- The created_by tag is created after the upload of the changes and should not be changed by users. Smsm1 14:50, 5 May 2007 (BST)
- The information who edited a feature is already included in the database and should not be manually tagged. Also JOSM already displays who edited a node by what percentage.(anonymised of the user wishes to.) --MarcusWolschon 11:41, 1 October 2007 (BST)
- I believe that a feature planned for an upcoming version of OSM-on-Rails will allow you to contact users who have been editing in the local area (by looking up user IDs against edits). --Richard 18:10, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
