- Proposal
Zamenhof-Esperanto objects (see the Wikipedia article on it) (in Esperanto Zamenhof/Esperanto-Objekto, abbreviation ZEO) are places linked to L. L. Zamenhof, the artificial language Esperanto he created in 1887, or the community of Esperanto speakers which has been using the language since.
- Rationale
To help Esperanto-speakers keep track of geographical locations which make reference to the language and its culture. It is especially useful for marking Esperanto clubs and associations (since the tags that exist do not fit very well with the language clubs dedicated to Esperanto speaking and propagation).
- Examples
Streets, memorials, public spaces such as squares, parks or bridges, names of buildings and companies such as hospitals, hotels or translation agencies. Also rivers and islands. The last count identified 1260 ZEOs, with Brazil and Poland having large amounts of ZEOs. See list.
- Tagging
It could be used in the same way as tourism=yes/no
, tagged as "esperanto", with values either yes or no. "No" should be the default when not specified.
- Applies to
Nodes, ways and areas.
- Rendering
Ideally, when the node/area has no other icon, it could display a green star, such as this one (albeit without the green border). But this is just an idea.
- Features/Pages affected
None that I can think of.
- Comments
This is my first proposal (I'm a newcomer), so please let me know if I messed something up. Cheers.
- Note: The tag esperanto=* was never created and added to the database, but a OSMwiki user created a page for it nevertheless, without community discussion or approval. If passed, this proposal would disregard the current tag page.
