I really like the idea to specify aircrafts better. But the "access-restriction" for a aerodrome should be a seperate proposal. E.g. the key "model" is not a good choice, but "model_aircraft" or "model_plane" is much more precisely. --Cbm 10:09, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Major/minor?

Please define the difference between major or minor... Would it be defined by the number of flights or passengers? --Eimai 12:22, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia makes a difference between international (major) and reginal (minor) amd says

A regional airport is an airport serving traffic within a relatively small or lightly populated geographical area. A regional airport usually does not have customs and immigration facilities to process traffic between countries. --Sicking 12:51, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

If you are going to have tags to indicate what types of services the airport have, why not also state its operator? In Norway it might be interesting to know what airports are operated by Avinor, and what airports are operated by private companies, the same in Brazil, what airports are operated by Infraero and what are private or other sources. Besides, military / civil / both can also be of interest. There are also some larger airports with no scheduled flights, some airports that services only scheduled flights, while the majority probably services both scheduled and non scheduled flights. --Skippern 14:32, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Its not only about the service (wiki says "usualy") its more about importance for infrastructur. Like highway (primary, secondary, tertial) or place (city, town, village) has no strict rule (OSM Wiki says "generaly") on what is the difference between tertial and secondary, there is no strict border between major and minor: Major airports connect larger and far away citys minors connect smaller citys not that far away. All these airports are civil, there is a tag military = airbase.--Sicking 15:02, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

In Germany there is Köln/Bonn for example. Mostly those combinend Airports do have different Buildings for civil an military, even the name is different (In cologne: Fliegerhorst Wahn(Military)/ Flughafen Köln/Bonn „Konrad Adenauer“(civil part). So i would set two nodes. One for the civil part one for the military part. --Sicking

It's quite common indeed. In Belgium there's Brussels Airport (EBBR/BRU - civil) and Melsbroek (EBMB - military) which are the same airport. I guess it depends on how this proposed tag would be used. If it's just nodes then surely two nodes can solve it easy enough. If it would tag the entire field the airport's on then it'd be more difficult.

airway = aerodrome is in use, i dont now other tags. airway = aerodrome is a node, this node should get additional information by using airport =(mayor, minor, landingfield).

There are some tags here Proposed_features/Airports. AFAIK the tags described there are used a lot already, so it'd make sense to incorporate it in that proposal. --Eimai 19:54, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

This tag seems to be in used but is listed as rejected. I think my proposal is closer to reality with 3 (4, someone added anotherone) sizes/importances of airports and restrictions regarding the typ of aircrafts --Sicking 15:25, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Actually, here's a thought for pilots and others who may use an aerodrome or airport... how about runway length and load classification number? Then it's up to the pilot in command to decide if he can land his jumbo jet there. Better still simply put the url in for users to read actual airport details for aviators, such as airnav.com CaptainKirk CaptainKirk 00:52, 28 July 2010 (UTC)!

sailplane not glider?
