No relation necessary

There is no need to introduce a new relation - just add the 'ref' number of the hole to the line. --Mueschel (talk) 11:19, 27 January 2025 (UTC)

The problem arises when a golf course facility has many holes with the same number, it is a overarching problem with mutliple courses which have been discussed in the leasure=golf talk page. How would one know what hole that number refers to? What if the course is redrawn, the course is for example reversed? Then we would have many loose ref= which would be hard to update. If ref numbers given by a course maintainer are not consistent or unique, there is nothing OSM can do about it. Courses that are changed need to be remapped - there's nothing special about boundaries, you also need to change the holes, tees and greens. --Mueschel (talk) 16:51, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
There's already a spatial relationship when the golf=out_of_bounds is inside the leisure=golf_course area. If needed, you could still further create eg golf_course:ref=* / golf_course:name=* .
