Proposal talk:Hail and ride
Tag on route ?
I think we should also add a tag on the route relation (and maybe the route_master relation too) : hail_and_ride = yes/partial/no
This could be useful to filter the hail_and_ride lines from the other ones.

- You don't need to tag the relation to be able to filter out the routes that have hail and ride. You can do this using Overpass eg: http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/uPt Adavidson (talk) 10:36, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
- I think this proposal needs to clarify that it applies only to public transport modes with fixed existing routes, and not, for example, the classic taxi. The entire city of New York (every single segment of every street) is hail-and-ride for taxis unless a sign is posted to the contrary. Even so, it seems to me far more practical to tag the relation for the route, and not the separate segments, unless the value is hail_and_ride=partial. And even then, it should be a role on the segment of the route, not a tag on the way. Johnparis (talk) 08:06, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Forward/backward
How can this be combined with the forward/backward role? For example the G1 bus is hail and ride for part of its route through Battersea (see http://content.tfl.gov.uk/bus-route-maps/south-west-london-bus-map.pdf) and for part of that section it takes different routes for the outward and inward journey e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/5649907 is on the outward route only, so it already has role 'forward'. --Ecatmur (talk) 21:24, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
- According to the pt v2 schema, the roles alternate, forward and backward should not be used any more. If each line variant has its own route relation, this should not be an issue.

Request stops
I note that request_stop=yes/no is in use to a small degree (https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/request_stop) but is not documented yet. Worth mentioning perhaps? --Ecatmur (talk) 21:24, 11 May 2017 (UTC)
The request_stop is used 23 times and only for nodes, not routes. These equate to a "halt". https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:railway=halt. This could be cited as a example in the definition. Johnparis (talk) 08:10, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Call to ride
I'm not sure if it really belongs here: at least in Germany there are bus routes where you need to call the operator (and often have to be at least a handful of persons) some time before using the service. It differs from the concept presented that there often exists a fixed schedule and fixed bus stops, but there won't be any bus without calling.
How do you think this would fit in with the public transport scheme? Tagging it as "usual" and adding a tag "call_to_ride=yes" to the bus stops? --Sp3pbn (talk) 09:08, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- There is a separate tagging for the case where that covers an entire route: route=share_taxi. It used to be rendered on Openmap.lt when that map had a global PT layer. I haven't seen any tagging for when only some of the stops or some of the runs require calling in advance, but that's probably an issue for Talk:Tag:route=share_taxi. //Essin (talk) 13:32, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
- Feel free to make a proposal for this, but it adds a complexity as call to ride services can have forks, which aren't allowed on a regular public transport route. Also, route=share_taxis are commonly hail-to-ride in addition to call-to-ride as well. There are also some share taxi services where the call to ride services cover an area. -Miklcct (talk) 10:29, 30 April 2024 (UTC)
Next step: Voting?
In many Latin American countries occurs the same (eg. Nicaragua). I thought of a way to map these cases and ended up with the same idea as proposed here. After four months being a proposal, maybe we should move to the next step and vote for the approval so that we can map (partial) bus routes as hail and ride. --Ialokim (talk) 17:28, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
- +1 We surely need this in Brazil. --Fernando Trebien (talk) 18:03, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
Splitting ways in intersections?
I would like to know whether it would be necessary to split ways on intersection with meridians like in this case (Hong Kong) [1] where stopping is obviously not possible. Is that fact simply assumed or would it be necessary to split a way and assign the role to one part only? U30303020 (talk) 19:14, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
Information on mailing lists
I would recommend cross posting this on talk-transit mailing list. I found the proposal rather by accident as by looking for it. U30303020 (talk) 19:26, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-transit/ is example of almost dead mailing list so it is not surprise that nobody cross posted there Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 08:20, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
