Proposal talk:Highway=fake speed camera

Good proposal. There are many fake speed cameras on the Moscow/Russia highways, and there was not one case, when I deleted highway=speed_camera node, but someone restored it. Note tag was not helpful. --Literan (talk) 09:27, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Some things to be addressed

Good proposal – fake speed cameras can easily be mistaken for real ones (that's what they're there for, after all), and having a node with this tag will make other mappers think twice before inserting a "real" speed camera. I'd suggest considering some further points, though:

  • There are effectively three kinds of "boxes": real speed cameras, completely fake ones and empty boxes into which a camera could be placed any moment. How would we tag the latter – highway=speed_camera, intermittent=yes? This should go into the proposal.
  • Can we give a list of typical signs to tell the three types apart? Obviously, this wouldn't be an exhaustive list.
  • Should mappers document how they determined the type of box? If so, how?

need to create a separate type of speed cameras or relation, instead of having to create each object for each type of speed camera J-wills (talk) 05:33, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

I propose a more general solution. This tag is too specific for my taste. I'd rather have something more general like fake=yes that should apply semantically to almost anything-- speed cameras, those "trees" that are really cell towers, decoys of other sorts, etc. This is a non-destructive and elegant way to achieve the same thing, and more. --Gpennell (talk) 22:41, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
