Proposal talk:Key:school:for
Some school:for values not describing people
As I have stated on the mailing list, I believe the values for a given key should follow the same principle for all the values. Currently you propose to mix groups of people like adults or deaf and disorders like autism in the same tag, you should decide which way to go and unify the approach. —-Dieterdreist (talk) 22:34, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
- Most of the tags now indicate a condition, except for adult and child which I don't expect to be often used.
- And please avoid ableist language like "normal_people". Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 16:33, 18 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing: I did my best to avoid ableist-language, the mailing list also suggested to use 'mainstream' so I went with that. Pietervdvn (talk) 13:03, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
"for" is too broad a word
Probably my only qualm with this proposal is that "for" is too broad a word, so it doesn't imply what information should be added: if you ask someone "what is this school 'for'?" they might say "primary education," or "science-focused education." I would prefer something more specific. My first thought is "school:audience", "school:intended_audience", or "school:intended_students", but that fails to imply the function of describing special skills or equipment for particular student needs. Perhaps "school:for_special_needs" would be better but that's a bit wordy, and implies yes/no answers, so "school:special_needs_met" or "school:student_needs_met" would be better but both are also wordy. --JOlshefsky (talk) 13:02, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hey JOlshefsky, I do understand - this is indeed a drawback. I choose "for" as this is somewhat consistent with social_facility:for=*. For 'primary education', school=* is used in a lot of places, so that use does not conflict (even though I have to admit that school=* is used for both the level and the subject too). For the subject, many specific tags exist (e.g. amenity=driving_school, amenity=music_school. However, to add a focus on a secondary school (e.g. a secondary school which focuses to train to work in a bakery), a future proposal might be drafted, e.g. school:subject=*, but something like that is out of scope for this proposal. School tagging is tricky to get right, very complex and everyone has an opinion, so I'm slicing this elephant so that we can eat it together. Pietervdvn (talk) 13:15, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
