Proposal talk:Music venue
I was about to propose something similar, so I'll support this one. Also IMHO no disambiguity (sic) with existing tags such as Pubs. A node can have several tags assigned to it, so no problem there. Actually one of my favourite Copenhagen venues, is a pub in one end, and a music venue in the other end. Dutch 18:03, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, but amenity= can have only one value atm. Morwen 19:09, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Personally, i think these make more sense under the leisure tag. Dean Earley 23:18, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Possibly, but we have amenity=cinema and amenity=theatre already, and introducing inconsistency at this point seems unfortunate. A bulk move of the lot of them to leisure at some point might be an idea. Morwen 23:21, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- So why not make this one leisure and have an additional vote on moving those non-amenities to leisure, followed by an update of map features and a run of the spellchecker thingy to correct existing entries? Also, on the subject of multi-use venues I suggested the value arts_centre that covers some cases though I'm not sure about the Nottingham ice arena example. Wembley is also a music venue, but it should be entered just as a football stadium IMO. TomChance
I agree that this would be better as 'leisure' and would like to see this proposal move theatres and cinemas to the leisure type as well. --Hawke 22:10, 11 June 2007 (BST)
- Those are now covered by amenity=theatre and amenity=cinema. If you want to move them to leisure=*, I suggest you make a separate proposal to accomplish that. What you're asking seems to be outside the scope of a tag for live music venues. --achadwick 22:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
leisure=venue and a secondary tag? ShakespeareFan00 23:29, 22 October 2007 (BST)
I'd go for leisure=music_venue. The thing then is to separate types, maybe using type=classical|rock|general, for example. On icon we certainly want to disambiguate between this and shop=music. Higgy 11:38, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Seconding leisure=music_venue in place of amenity=music_venue. I'd suggest music_type={classical,rock,folk,jazz,blues,any,...} with unspecified meaning "any". Describe it as "the most common type of music which is performed here", and deliberately define only a few of them up front to avoid having to keep updating the spec to cope with the newest emerging trend. --achadwick 22:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
What is the step needed now to get this tag implemented? Can we do it as is, and discuss movement of all culture-related tags to leisure separately? --Kotya 21:17, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, please. Let's not let too much baggage get accumulated on this proposal. It's a useful proposal, and I don't want to see it stagnate before the road I might want to use it on gets fully gentrified and the venue moves out :) The process is documented at Proposed_features#Proposal_creation_guidelines. Looks like the next step is to make a formal RFC announcement on the talk mailing list, and set an rfcStartDate. --achadwick 22:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
