Make it more generic
The proposal should not restricted to olives only. E.g. man_made=oil_mill + fruit=* can also be used for other oil mills. --Fabi2 19:22, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- I second this. There is a lot of different fruits and seeds to make oil out of. Make it oil mill so that it can be used for different sources and propose a subtag for the kind of plant that can be milled there. -- Dieterdreist 19:35, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
We can add
- produce=olive_oil for the production of olive oil
- produce=almond_oil
- produce=sunflower_oil
- produce=rape_oil
- If the change suggested by the previous posters is applied, you have my vote! --Wuzzy (talk) 13:51, 28 April 2015 (UTC)
What about oil factories without mills?
How do you tag oil factories that only mix and package oil? I think it's important for the end user of the map data to be able to distinguish in some way between a big oil factory (with or without it's own milling capability) and a (small) oil mill that works for the local olive producers. It may have a shop or not. The situation is most likely similar to the wine industry, where the big wine factories mix wines from different producers, often coming even from different countries and bottle the mix. And on the other hand there are the smaller direct wine producers.
