Proposal
A Wedding Reception is a social event, involving the bride and groom, held after the completion of a marriage ceremony. It is held as hospitality for those who have attended the wedding. It may be held inside a building (e.g. hall, church) or outside (e.g. at a beach, a park).
How to Map
Add the additional tag wedding_reception=yes to the feature (e.g. building, park, beach, zoo etc).
Rationale (Verbose Explanation)
Wedding reception is an event that should be able to be added to a feature as a property of that feature. In this way an indication is given that the feature may be used for a wedding reception. In the same way that the property of website may be added to a feature.
Examples
Some religious facilities provide for wedding receptions usually after a wedding ceremony. Some halls, historic buildings, parks and beaches can be hired for wedding receptions.
Features/Pages affected
Could be added as a link to other wiki pages containing the word reception and/or wedding, the features building, park, beach.
On the OSM data base there are very few 'wedding' values/keys.

Comment:
- Too many places could be tagged this way.
- Too specific - needs a broader tag (which would lead to more places tagged ... conflicting with the above objection)
- It is an 'event' and should not be tagged.
- Should not be a property tag.

- I oppose this proposal. the vast majority of the places rentable for a reception are "event spaces" rentable for other purposes as well. This property tag is too specific. Brycenesbitt (talk) 04:19, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- I oppose this proposal. As Bryce said. And such an "event" can be held nearly everywhere. In opposite to the wedding ceremony itself: Those places are rare. GeorgFausB (talk) 04:44, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- Unless you have cultural/religious or local laws .. wedding ceremonies can also be held 'everywhere'. Warin61 (talk) 00:08, 9 July 2015 (UTC)
- Not on private ground, and not if you have a larger number of guests than the venue can support. Brycenesbitt (talk) 20:55, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
- Bryce! Yes .. on 'private ground'. https://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/10-essentials-home-wedding-090000389.html Warin61 (talk) 00:48, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

- I oppose this proposal. In the UK wedding receptions can be held almost anywhere. Not just the "usual" hotels, stately homes, town halls, pubs, etc. but beaches, boats, and by hiring a marque you can have one in the middle of any field. If this tag is used to it's full extent there will be too many to be meaningful and just overwhelm any users searching for them. Peter Mead (talk) 09:41, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- I oppose this proposal. A wedding reception place is usually used for other purposes (including other receptions) too. I think it will introduce more confusion than necessary. Kotya (talk) 10:41, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- I oppose this proposal. same reason as Brycenesbitt Zuse (talk) 13:32, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- I oppose this proposal. A wedding reception is an event, not a location, and can be held almost anywhere large enough to hold the attendees. Jfeldredge (talk) 15:36, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- I oppose this proposal. A wedding reception is an event, and we do not map events in openstreetmap, event venues/spaces can be mapped but they can be used for other purposes. trigpoint (talk) 18:13, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
- I oppose this proposal. I agree with the previously mentioned objections. --Tordanik 21:17, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

- I have comments but abstain from voting on this proposal. While this information seems to have it's uses it falls into an area of OSM which is largely empty at moment. I would like to see the context to other celebration possibilities and venues (including amenity=events_venue). --Jojo4u (talk) 14:21, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
- I have comments but abstain from voting on this proposal. You could add all possible activities a venue caters for.
amenity=events_venue + wedding_reception=yes + birthday_party=yes + group_dinner=yes + whatever=yes...
This may be useful information in some cases but a top-level property does not seem appropriate for this kind of detailed information IMO. —M!dgard [ talk | projects | current proposal ] 21:10, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
